San Mateo County History Museum
Situated in downtown Redwood City, this museum is located within the historic County Courthouse. First built in 1910, the museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of the county.
The museum itself was first founded in 1935, and has grown substantially over the decades. It now includes a number of permanent exhibitions which showcases the rich history. Key exhibits showcase everything from the earliest occupants of the region to the local businesspeople who helped make San Mateo what it is today, all of which make for fantastic educational treats while staying at the Good Nite Inn.
Hiller Aviation Museum
The Hiller Aviation Museum is dedicated to the history of air travel, and is ideally situated at San Carlos Airport. First founded by Stanley Hiller in 1998, the museum is particularly focused on aviation in Northern California.
Here visitors can explore a selection of 50 vehicles including additional information which helps bring the world of flight to life. Key exhibits include a number of helicopters and light aircraft, which makes for impressive viewing.
Notre Dame de Namur University
A private Catholic university, Notre Dame de Namur has the distinction of being the first university in the state to grant female students degrees. It is comprised of three schools covering arts, science and business.
The university was first founded as an academy in 1851, and later transformed into its current incarnation during 1923.
