It may be iconic for its beautiful summers, with endless beaches, bountiful vineyards and beautiful people, but there’s still plenty to keep you entertained while visiting California during the winter months! In this blog, we’ll take a quick look at some of our favourite things to do here in December…
1. Visit Lake Tahoe
Home to dozens of fun-filled ski resorts, Lake Tahoe is a favored winter destination for visitors to California. It’s the perfect spot to show off your skiing skills, or teach younger travelers how to ski themselves.
Accomodation choices range from the ultra-luxurious to family and budget-friendly options, but if you need to make your money stretch further, don’t forget to use your Good Nite Inn promo code when booking your accommodation.
2. Take a trip to Palm Springs
Noted for its warmer weather even during December, there’s a reason why so many visitors head to Palm Springs this time of year. There’s lots of year-round attractions and activities which you won’t want to miss including shopping, hiking, horseback riding and golf, so it really is possible to create the perfect getaway whether you’re travelling solo, as a couple or with family.
3. Head to San Diego
San Diego really gets into the festive spirit in December and there’s more than enough on offer to keep you entertained during a winter trip. Whale watching is especially popular, particularly between December and April.
For fans of amusement parks and museums, we particularly recommend checking out the greater San Diego area, which includes destinations such as Legoland California and Sea World, both are open throughout the year and within easy reach for guests staying with us at the Good Nite Inn.
4. Explore wine country at Napa Valley
Want to find out where Californian wine is created? Then a trip to the inimitable Napa Valley is a must. This is a particularly busy tourist destination during the spring and summer, but the winter is much less crowded, making it the perfect time to explore.
Temperatures remain pleasant enough, but we recommend bringing a jacket as you’ll be spending much of your time outside. For guests joning us at Good Nite Inn Camarillo, vineyards are pretty much on your doorstep.
5. Enjoy a day trip to Santa Barbara
Another location with milder temperatures, Santa Barbara is filled with beaches and abundant aquatic life, as well as a number of great museums. Our favorite is the Museum of Natural History, which helps visitors to discover more about the world beneath the waves as well as a variety of fascinating land-based creatures.
6. Yosemite National Park
One of California’s most beautiful landscapes, Yosemite National Park is filled with crowds during the summer, but in the winter you’ll have a chance to explore it in peace. We recommend bringing a camera, as the vistas are spectacular.
There’re ample opportunities for skiing and hiking, as well as locations where less active visitors can relax with a warm drink and enjoy the views. This all helps to make Yosemite one of our favorite locations in the state, and one we’re sure guests will enjoy visiting during their stay with us.
